Speaking to Onze Mondial about Edouard Mendy missing out on the Ballon d’Or nomination, Sadio Mane said: “It is unacceptable. I do not understand it.”
Earlier this week, another Senegal international, Kalidou Koulibaly, questioned Mendy’s absence for the final Ballon d’Or shortlist as well.
The Napoli defender said: “It’s a real shame that Edou isn’t one of them [players nominated this year]. He is the first African goalkeeper to win the Champions League.
“We must continue to work and move forward. We have to do the double [the work] of some people to be well judged.
“Edou is a very positive person. We talked about it together. He will continue to fight to be part of it. For me, he has a place among these 30 players.”
Mendy’s Chelsea teammates Cesar Azpilicueta, Mason Mount, N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are among the 30 players shortlisted for the 2021 Ballon d’Or.
