Norwich boss Daniel Farke has suggested that he is ‘happy to have’ Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour despite the Scottish international having been left out of the picture recently.
The Blues youngster joined the Canaries on a season-long loan in the summer and enjoyed an impressive start to life in east Anglia.
He started four out of the club’s five opening Premier League matches of the campaign but has not been given a single minute since, having been named as an unused substitute in each of the last three games.
Gilmour’s lack of action is certainly a mystery, with the midfielder having previously earned rave reviews for his performances – he even drew a comparison to N’Golo Kante by former Chelsea defender Patrick van Aanholt for his displays at Euro 2020.
Since, there have been suggestions that Chelsea could potentially recall Gilmour to Stamford Bridge but Farke has allayed concerns with a glowing endorsement of the 20-year-old.
He said: “Billy is a fantastic player. A fantastic human being. We can always count on him as he gives 100 per cent. I am happy with him.
Billy wants to play each and every second in each and every game. Even if I substitute him in a friendly in the 89th minute he would be angry. I love this mentality.
“He needs to have this mentality. If you love football then you love Billy Gilmour because this guy is a baller. He always wants the ball but he is also a young lad and we have to look out for him.
“He also has to improve in a few topics and again it’s not that easy for him with the hype from his home country and lots of praise. I think he’s got a good mindset and he is hardworking on the pitch.
“He has unbelievable potential. We are happy we have him and nobody has anything to worry about
Gilmour previously broke onto the scene with Chelsea during the 2019/20 season and has gone on to make 22 appearances in all competitions for the Blues. His contract at Stamford Bridge is set to run until the summer of 2023.
