Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel should be able to call upon the services of Christian Pulisic after the international break, and the American star could be key to getting the best from Romelu Lukaku
Last season no attacking player for Chelsea completed more dribbles per 90 in the Premier League than Pulisic (2.83 per 90). And his expected goals per 90 (0.28 per 90) only trailed Havertz and Werner, who often played through the centre of the attack.
The season prior, Pulisic’s output was even higher. So the challenge for the winger on his return is to replicate the numbers he posted in 2019/20 under Frank Lampard.
An intriguing subplot to that is how he will link up with Romelu Lukaku, who Pulisic has yet to play alongside. The Belgian has struggled for service in his last six matches but the direct running of Pulisic may drag opponents away from the striker and open up space in which to thrive. It is a tantalising prospect.
