Thiago Silva has hit out at Chelsea teammate Edouard Mendy’s Ballon d’Or snub after the goalkeeper made a string of brilliant saves in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Brentford.
The Blues took the lead through Ben Chilwell moments before half-time but the second period was a very different affair, with the home side pinning Chelsea inside their own box and creating a host of excellent chances.
But Mendy was equal to all of them, making one particularly brilliant close-range save to deny Pontus Jansson as he secured a superb clean sheet and three valuable points for his team.
It was the Senegalese shot-stopper’s 20th clean sheet in 38 Premier League games, while he also recorded a shut-out in the Champions League final against Manchester City at the end of last season.
Yet, despite his outstanding performances since signing for Chelsea, Mendy did not make the 30-man shortlist for this year’s Ballon d’Or award.
