Coventry City romped to a 4-1 victory today in the Championship – and some fans on Twitter loved the performance of their Chelsea loanee Ian Maatsen.
Coventry, who now sit third in the Championship league table, beat Fulham convincingly at home on Saturday afternoon.
Chelsea-owned talent Maatsen has dropped down to the second tier this season by joining the Sky Blues on a season-long loan.
The 19-year-old defender scored the fourth and final goal for his Coventry team at the weekend. He produced an excellent finish on his favoured left foot that he powered into the net.
He’s made himself a nailed-on starter this season and is thriving in a left wing-back system.
In addition, Jake Clarke-Salter is another Chelsea talent that is playing out on loan this year with Coventry.
Coventry fans hail Maatsen display
Of course, it’s a great sign that Maatsen is playing in a wing-back role as that’s how Chelsea operate under Blues manager Thomas Tuchel.
The Dutch teenager has made one first-team appearance since a move to Stamford Bridge in 2018 and will surely hope to make a senior breakthrough in full next season when his loan expires.
A selection of Coventry supporters on social media were majorly impressed with him on Saturday. His pace and athleticism means he’s a massive threat down the left flank for 90 minutes.
Here are some Coventry fans praising Maatsen:
Anyone still think Maatsen should still have been dropped after Wednesday?!!! MOM today just ahead of Gyokeres and Hyam. That was brilliant, Robins is king!!— Russell Peterson (@AnthonyRuss126) October 2, 2021
Big shout otut to Clarke-Salter and Maatsen today, Wednesday probably knocked their confidence back a bit but both played superbly today along with the rest of players #PUSB— Harry Chattaway (@chattaway_harry) October 2, 2021
Gyokeres was outstanding again, the guy is a baller and scores pretty much every game, such a brilliant striker, sheaf was immense in the second half, maatsen was outstanding and scored a beautiful goal, o’hare was class as usual. This team is something else. #PUSB— Tom Upton (@TomUpto94934917) October 2, 2021
Trevoh Chalobah can inspire Chelsea loanees
Chalobah linked up with Chelsea for pre-season in the summer after previous loans with Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town and Lorient.
The 22-year-old defender was a promising young talent, but nobody would have predicted he would break into the main first-team squad this season.
He’s shown Tuchel will play you if you’re good enough, so current loanees should set their sights on emulating his success.
