One of the best in the world at the moment” – Manager lauds surprise Chelsea player ahead of Brentford clash

As Brentford prepare to face Chelsea in the Premier League, Thomas Frank gave a nice little interview to the Danish media about various topics, including Andreas Christensen.

A surprise key part of Thomas Tuchel’s plans after being somewhat shunned by Frank Lampard, the Dane seems close to signing a new contract at Stamford Bridge and is earning plenty of plaudits for his performances, both with the Blues and the Denmark national team.

Having worked with him at youth level when he was in charge of the Danish youth teams, Frank knows Christensen well and is simply thrilled at how his development is going.

Relayed by Bold, he said: “[Christensen] is one of the best defenders in the world at the moment. He has always been enormously intelligent on the pitch, meaning very quick to anticipate all situations offensively and defensively.

“He is technically hugely strong for a defender in terms of bringing the ball forward, passing and making good choices. He is also foresighted and fast at the same time, so it’s almost the complete package”.

If that wasn’t enough praise, the Brentford manager continued by explaining that he thought there was also more to come from the Chelsea defender, as players in his position are ‘like good wine, as in they get better and better with age’.

Signing for the Blues in 2012 when he arrived from Brøndby’s U17s, Christensen has made 135 appearances in all competitions, picking up one assist along the way.
