‘Need him’: Some Chelsea fans want 21-year-old ‘baller’ signed after he gets two CL assists last night

Ajax qualified for the Champions League knockout rounds last night with an impressive result against Borussia Dortmund – and some Chelsea fans on Twitter loved the performance from dazzling forward Antony.

Dutch giants Ajax won 3-1 away at Dortmund on Wednesday night to qualify for the Champions League last-16 with two group stage matches to spare.

Erik ten Hag’s side maintained their 100 per cent record in Europe this season.

Therefore, they look one of the strongest outfits in the Champions League right now.

Ajax winger Antony, 21, was at the heart of his team’s success in midweek.

The Brazilian trickster assisted both the second and third goal inside the final 10 minutes to wrap up a victory in Germany.

First of all, the right-winger cut inside to his favoured left foot and landed a cross perfectly on Sebastien Haller’s head to net the goal that made it 2-1.

He followed that up in stoppage time with a smart right-footed pass across goal into Davy Klaasen’s path.

Chelsea fans in awe of Antony CL masterclass

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media say they want Antony signed after watching his brilliant performance for Ajax in the Champions League group stages yesterday.

It was the kind of eye-catching display that had so many talking on social media.

The left-footed wide player is a vital cog in the Ajax XI and it’s easy to see why there are comparisons to Hakim Ziyech.

Chelsea winger Ziyech, 28, is a left-footed attacker that spent his best years to date in an Ajax team before his transfer to Stamford Bridge in 2020.

There are so many similarities between him and his eventual replacement Antony.

South American ace Antony is a real box of tricks that loves to demonstrate his skill on the ball, so is a nightmare for opposition defenders.

His end product in the final third against Dortmund was spot on, too.

Aged 21, the potential he’s got is frightening.

It looks like the club from Amsterdam are continuing their tradition to help nurture superb young talents, albeit he was signed from Sao Paulo in 2020 rather than come through the academy system.

Here are some Chelsea fans that want to sign Antony:

Blues previously linked

Some Chelsea supporters may not have plucked admiration for Antony out of thin air.

Interestingly, the Blues were interested in trying to sign him in 2020 when he was at Sao Paulo before his switch to Ajax.

Antony’s agent Junior Pedroso confirmed that Chelsea were one of two clubs in England to hold discussions about the Brazilian youngster. However, it looks like his move to Holland is working out well for him.

It will be interesting to see if he ends up in the Premier League at a later date. He’s got the potential to make a similar impact to someone like Leeds United’s Raphinha.

In contrast, Ziyech has found it slightly difficult at times adapting from the Eredivise to the Premier League.

Antony’s still so young, though, and is someone to keep an eye out for moving forward.

His Ajax team are definitely dark horses to watch out for in this season’s Champions League, which is a competition that Chelsea are trying to defend their crown in after last campaign’s heroics.
