Ghanaian ex-midfielder Michael Essien has urged Antonio Rudiger to remain with Chelsea despite gridlocked extension talks with Blues chiefs.
Rudiger’s stay at West London has witnessed heavy media speculations this term following the Germany international’s refusal to accept contract offers thus far.
The 28-year-old is reportedly keen on an improved lucrative deal with the Blues with figures around £250k-per-week.
With Bundesliga kings Bayern Munich clearly interested in Rudiger, further pressure mounts on director Marina Granovskaia after the departure of Kurt Zouma to West Ham.
Michael Essien however wants the German to remain at Stamford Bridge beyond this season.
“No one can deny he’s really been incredible for the club, especially winning the champions league last season” Essien said in a conversation with TalkSports over Chelsea’s title chances and Rudiger’s impact.
“Perhaps he’s challenged with making the right decision for himself, but I think staying with Chelsea is actually the best for him. He’s already established himself here as one of the best defenders in the league”
“Of course he probably feels he’s under-appreciated but I don’t think that’s the case, hopefully an agreement would be reached soon” He added.
