La Liga president Tebas explains conflict with Real Madrid president Perez

The president of the Spanish football league La Liga Javier Tebas on Tuesday admitted that he has a poor relationship with Real Madrid  president Florentino Perez and went as far to say that the club would “do better with a different president.”

Speaking in an interview on Spanish radio station Cadena Cope, Tebas said that he was certain that “one day” he would return to visit the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, but that for the moment there was too much “tension” between him and Perez.

“I don’t know if Florentino Perez and I will make peace, but I think it’s difficult as we have two different ways of understanding professional football,” commented Tebas.

La Liga has strongly opposed the plans for a European Superleague headed by Real Madrid  and Tebas insisted that Perez “doesn’t want La Liga to grow because if that happened, it would mean the end of the Superleague project.

“Real Madrid oppose all of the agreements we make and in private Perez tells people I’m corrupt, although in public he gets other people to say things … He can say I’m a poor administrator, but never corrupt,” continued the LaLiga president.

Tebas insisted that the Superleague project, which would see Europe’s biggest clubs form a breakaway competition, was “non-negotiable … It’s a dead project,” and he said that although FC Barcelona had also formed part of the project that he was “not fighting with (Barca president) Joan Laporta.”

“I am not in conflict with him, both he and Barca are vital (to La Liga), the question with Florentino Perez is much deeper because he is absolutely wrong in what La Liga should be … If he could he would get me out of La Liga and he is making a lot of enemies. Real Madrid  would be better with a different president
