Jorginho’s penalty miss hurts Italy but Robert Lewandowski sends Poland to play-offs

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho missed a last-minute penalty as Italy failed to take the chance to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.

Roberto Mancini’s side drew 1-1 with Switzerland, meaning the two sides are still level on points going into the final round of matches.

Italy’s goal difference is two better than that of Switzerland, who host Bulgaria on Monday evening.

Robert Lewandowski scored twice, and the result effectively confirms Poland’s place in the play-offs after Albania defeat to England
