Jorginho reveals what Italy team-mates told him about Romelu Lukaku before striker rejoined Chelsea

Jorginho has revealed that his Italy team-mates waxed lyrical about Romelu Lukaku ’s work ethic before the striker rejoined Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

Lukaku, 28, has been in a rich vein of form since returning to Stamford Bridge from Inter Milan in a club-record £97.5million move last month, scoring seven goals in six games for club and country.

On Tuesday night, Lukaku came to the rescue with towering 69th-minute header against Zenit Saint Petersburg to get Chelsea’s defence of the Champions League off to a winning start in Group H.

Speaking after Chelsea’s victory, Jorginho said the Belgium international ‘deserved’ to make an impact due to his ‘mentality’ both on matchdays and on the training ground.

They (Italy team-mates who played with Lukaku) said that he works a lot, he can help a lot, he tries to talk, he works hard,’ Jorginho explained

We are really happy that he is really helping everyone.

‘That’s what everyone does here, we try to help each other — and he came with the right mentality, working and trying to help.

‘So I’m really happy for him as well because he works so hard during training and deserves every goal. A big impact is well deserved.’

Antonio Rudiger has also been impressed by Lukaku’s ‘big personality’ which he feels has brought a new dimension to Chelsea’s attack.

‘He is a striker of great class,’ the Chelsea central defender said.

‘He has a big personality but what is more important is the team, not only one player.

‘Of course, to have a great player like him is very good but the reason we won the Champions League last year is we did it as a team
