When Eden Hazard moved to Real Madrid in the summer of 2019, it broke the heart of many Chelsea supporters.
The Belgium international was a fan favourite in west London, where he established himself as one of the best players in the Premier League during his seven-year stay with the Blues.
So any talk of a return is always speculation that excites Chelsea fans – and that appears to be the case today as well.
The 30-year-old has been offered to his former club by ‘intermediaries’, but striking a deal with Real Madrid could be a ‘very difficult .
Los Blancos are still paying off Hazard’s £89million transfer fee in instalments every summer and would need to generate around £51m in order to not make a loss, but Chelsea see that fee as ‘very high’.
Hazard, who has massively struggled with injuries since moving to the Spanish capital, still has three years remaining on his deal in Madrid.
The former Blues star has previously spoken about the idea of making a sensational return to London and to Chelsea, but completely rubbished rumours earlier this summer.
Speaking in May, Hazard said: “I still have a three-year contract with Real Madrid, so going back to England is out of the question.
Everyone knows that my first two years were not good, so first I want to prove myself at Real Madrid. I will do everything to do that.
“I certainly don’t see myself leaving Madrid, given the contract situation.
“I know myself and I know when I’m in shape. If that’s the case, I can give it my all for Real next season. That’s my plan.”
Newly-appointed Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti also spoke about Hazard when quizzed on him in June earlier this year, and was confident that the Belgian would be able to reach his full potential in the near future.
