Following yet another poor Manchester United result, Paul Scholes is still adamant that his old club isn’t ‘massively short of Chelsea’ – an opinion that Blues fans cannot believe.
Manchester United suffered yet another devastating blow in the Premier League on Saturday, this time at the hands of their local rivals Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola’s side were in complete control of proceedings and essentially toyed with Ole Gunner Solskjaer’s men in Manchester’s City’s 2-0 victory at Old Trafford.
The defeat left the Red Devils fifth in the table at the end of Saturday’s fixtures, a very underwhelming start to the season when considering their summer transfer window had pundits branding them as potential title challengers prior to the campaign.
It also heaps the pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who looks favourite to be the next Premier League manager to leave his post after Norwich sacked Daniel Farke on Saturday evening.
But despite a combination of poor results and abject performances, Manchester United legend Paul Scholes still backs his club to beat the likes of Chelsea, with the teams set to face each other at the end of the month.
”I don’t think [Manchester United] are massively short of Chelsea in all honestly, I think they can go on and beat teams like Chelsea” Scholes said.
It’s certainly a surprise that the former English international has the confidence to make considering the gulf in quality recently, with
United suffering embarrassing defeats against Man City and rivals Liverpool in recent weeks, and Chelsea fans were quick to respond to his analysis on social media.

@hanasraybans: Delusional. Man Utd has conceded nearly the same number of goals as Norwich City, when we’ve only conceded three. A good attack wins you matches but a good defence wins you trophies- something Ole United DNA FC will struggle to achieve.

@sgqha: “At this point this is so pathetic of him really.”
