‘Best in the world’ – Chelsea fans in heaven as Reece James scores two goals against Newcastle

Chelsea travelled to Newcastle United hoping to retain their place at the top of the Premier League table – but Thomas Tuchel will have known it would not be easy.

A repeat of their 7-0 thrashing against Norwich last weekend was always going to be a big ask and Graeme Jones, who continues to stand in as Newcastle boss, largely frustrated his opposite number in the first-half.

The Blues, who had to contend without Mason Mount following an illness, had over 70% of the ball when they went in at half-time drawing 0-0, with the final pass just lacking in each move.

However, eventually the visitors managed to break the deadlock and, unsurprisingly it required a moment of magic.

As Chelsea looked to launch yet another attack, Callum Hudson-Odoi made good ground down the left hand side, but his cross was just out of reach of Kai Havertz.

However, the clearing header found its way to Reece James. The right wing-back took a touch, eyed up the top corner and rifled a stunning strike into the net with his left-foot.

There was plenty of relief on the bench, high in the away end and from those keeping up with the scores at home. Moments later, he was able to make it 2-0 too. Jorginho rounded off the scoring with a penalty, securing a 3-0 victory.

Chelsea have received plenty of praise for their academy graduate in recent weeks and it is easy to see why. Here is the best of the reaction to his actions.
