Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has reportedly opened shock and surprise Real Madrid talks as Los Blancos plot a free transfer swoop for the Blues star.
Rudiger, 28, is set to see his current deal expire at the end of the season and despite recent optimism surrounding his future, it seems the European Champions are no closer to securing his long-term future in west London.
This is because Spanish outlet Marca have reported that Carlo Ancelotti’s side are set to open talks with the ex-Roma man over a move to the Santiago Bernabeu with AS saying the same regarding the situation.
Is Rudiger playing the contract negotiation game or is there room to start worrying now as a Chelsea fan that these negotiations aren’t going to plan so far?
You would assume it’s the latter, considering what the 28-year-old had to say on his future recently.
In a press conference ahead of Germany’s clash with Romania during the international break, Rudiger was asked if he had interest in returning to the Bundesliga.
He said: “I feel good where I am now. So that fits.
The interest honours me. That shows that I’ve done a few things right recently.
“But I don’t let myself be distracted. I have an obligation to my club to perform well. I have to prove myself every game and not let myself be distracted by rumours. I make my decisions for myself. They don’t depend on anyone. I feel good where I am.”
His club manager ThomasTuchel, as we know, is highly keen on keeping a player he views as irreplaceable in his current set-up.
