Karim Benzema has been in stellar form to start the new season, with 9 goals and 7 assists to his name in just 8 La Liga games.
The striker has been included in the 30-man shortlist for the 2021 trophy but is not expected to be a favourite.
Speaking about the prestigious award, he told AS: “Since I was a kid, it was always a dream of mine to win the Ballon d’Or. It’s the dream for most players.
“It’s true that football is a team game but when you help the side to win, when you’re instrumental in triumphs, when you score winning goals, it’s natural for any player to aspire to win the Ballon d’Or.
Of course, I’ll work as hard as I can to win that trophy and I hope, someday, fulfill the dream I had when I was a young boy.”
Lionel messi and Robert Lewandowski remain among the favourites for the award.
If he keeps his current form up though, it would be hard to see anyone other than Benzema win the next one.
