Chelsea’s academy prospect Charlie Webster has shared that Mateo Kovacic has been a “major help” after working alongside him in first-team training sessions.
Webster, 17, is a rising talent in the Blues youth ranks who’s been at Cobham since joining the Under-10s.
The teenage midfielder is yet to make his senior debut, but has been around Thomas Tuchel’s main group in the last few weeks for some training sessions. He’s been an unused substitute in both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup already this season, so is clearly someone on the radar of first-team manager Tuchel.
He was back in action this week with the Under-23s, though.
Webster has given an insight into what it’s been like training with the world-class talents at Stamford Bridge, giving a special mention to the influence from £ 40million midfield star Kovacic.
For certain, all-action central midfielder Kovacic is the type of player that Chelsea’s academy stars will look up to for tips. Pat Nevin recently described him as “undroppable” in the kind of form.
